More information about junior rugby at Halifax RUFC
The season
The season runs from the first Sunday in September until the end of April. Training and fixtures take place in all weathers, and we only cancel if the ground is waterlogged or frozen solid.Training
Thursday nights 6.30 - 7.30pmSunday mornings 10.30am - 11.30am when no matches are arranged.
Fixtures
All games will take place on a Sunday morning and will involve some travelling when playing away. Venues differ, however the furthest we travel is probably Hull.Whilst we try to get a game or part of for everyone it should be recognised that if your child is new to playing rugby then this may not be possible for safety reasons. We try where possible to introduce newcomers to this aspect of the game in training and not during competitive matches. We would, therefore, appreciate your patience if it seems your child is not featuring in inter-club matches when they first join the club.
If we are playing away we either meet at the club prior to the match or at the opposition's club. Directions are always available.
E-mail and the website
Contact with team members is made by e-mail or the website. Make sure you give your up-to-date e-mail address to your coach. For members of the team who do not have access to email, it is your responsibility to keep up with team news.Protective Equipment
Rugby is a contact sport and therefore the use of protective equipment is encouraged. We encourage the use of gum shields, shin pads, head guards and body protection. It is recommended that you have a dentist-fitted gum shield; however gum shields purchased from sports shops are acceptable providing that they are a good fit and are comfortable to wear.In relation to boots, only aluminium studs are allowed. These should comply with current standards. These are available from good sports shops. Plastic football studs are not allowed.
Clothing and Kit
Club shirts, shorts, socks etc are available from the Club shop. Please ensure that your child comes suitably dressed for the weather conditions. It is advisable to put your child’s name in all clothing.Bathing/Showering
All children are encouraged to make use of the bath/showers after the game and to change into dry warm clothing. No boots are allowed into the clubhouse. (Sorry, no mums in the changing rooms!!)Drinks for training/games
Children are encouraged to take regular drinks during training/matches. Please ensure that they bring their own drink in a named bottle. Water will be provided where possible for fixtures/training, however if your child could bring their own as well, this will help to keep them hydrated.Food and Drink
Food and drinks (including alcohol for parents) are available in all clubs. We would like to see all parents and children in the clubhouse after the game for a post match drink to discuss the match, break the ice and make new friends.Social Events
From time to time we have social events at the club. These will be advertised well in advance and we would encourage you to participate.Press Coverage
